Russia is not the country to visit if you love your fast food
After three years of operation in the Russian market, Wendy’s will leave the country and shut down its eight locations due to a change in the local franchisee’s management.
If you are a traveler who loves the ability to get a quick Wendy’s fix abroad, then Russia is not the place for you.
Wenrus Restaurant group was slated to open 180 Wendy's outlets across by 2020. A It is reported that the new leadership in the company has not expressed interest to expand Wendy’s influence in Russia.
So far, four of the eight locations have been closed.
The closing of Wendy’s follows a slew of other recent mishaps and failure with American fast-food chains in Russia. Local health inspectors began accusing McDonald's of "wrong-doing." A watch dog agency filed a lawsuit against the American burger chain, and demanded that they remove many of their menu items including cheeseburgers and milkshakes, and have called for McDonald's to shut down.
Oh, American fast-food chains. It seems that Russia no longer wants to be friends anymore.
Wendy's Put Everyone's Favorite Appetizer in a Chicken Sandwich
With everything going on in the world, it&aposs been a tough time for shared appetizers. Hors d&aposoeuvres trays feel like a relic from another world, and you&aposre probably going to want everyone in your party to use some hand sanitizer before diving into a plate of nachos.
Maybe our "new normal" doesn&apost mean giving up on the appetizer state of mind entirely, but simply adapting these guilty pleasures to a new context. If that&aposs the case, then Wendy&aposs surely must be onto something with a new line of Jalapeño Popper Sandwiches.
Before you ask, no: That name doesn&apost mean that Wendy&aposs is putting a jalapeno popper between two buns and calling it a day. Instead, they&aposre using a sort of deconstructed take on the jalapeño popper as a way to take the chicken sandwich to cheesy, creamy heights.
This collection of jalapeno popper sandwiches breaks down into three offerings, each offering a different play on the presentation of the chicken that accompanies the popper ingredients. The Classic Jalapeño Popper Sandwich starts with a lightly-breaded breast of chicken before slathering on jalapeño cream cheese and a cheddar cheese sauce, not to mention applewood smoked bacon, shredded pepper jack, and, naturally, a heaping serving of jalapeños. For those who wish their combination of chicken, bacon, and various cheeses felt slightly healthier, the Grilled Jalapeño Popper Sandwich is a good bet.
Finally, if you&aposre the kind of eater who says "bring it on" to spicy foods, the Spicy Jalapeño Popper Sandwich adds a little fire to the aforementioned ingredients by adding a fiery blend of peppers and spices to the chicken breast itself. If Wendy&aposs could find a way to make the bun itself spicy, I&aposm sure they would.
Much like a passed tray of jalapeño poppers, these new entries into the Great Chicken Sandwich Wars will only be around for a limited time, though you&aposll find them at participating Wendy&aposs locations nationwide. So if your main complaint about chicken sandwiches these days is that they&aposre lacking spicy cream cheese, your time has come.
Gather your ingredients for copycat Wendy's chili
Our first stop in deciphering Wendy's chili was to take a peek at the ingredients list on their website. We knew it had beef and two types of beans — red kidney beans and something they describe as "pink beans." It's difficult to find canned pink beans in the U.S., so we picked up a can of pinto beans instead they taste and look very similar.
Next up, we tackled what Wendy's calls the chili base, which is the sauce that makes up the body of this dish: yellow onion, celery, green peppers, chili peppers, canned tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Combined with the liquid in the canned beans, this combination provided plenty of liquid for our chili. From there, we tossed out all the unpronounceable ingredients those function mostly as preservatives, something we don't need in the home kitchen. We concentrated on the spices and determined we needed chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. The final two ingredients — sugar and butter — rounded out the flavor of our copycat Wendy's chili.

(CNN) – The battle for breakfast gains a new entrant on March 2.
That’s when Wendy’s enters the ring and debuts its highly anticipated menu for the increasingly competitive timeslot. The launch comes six months after the fast food chain announced it wanted in on this growing category.
And Wendy’s is already needling its peers on Twitter:
Wendy’s is serving a mix of new items and twists on its customer favorites, including the Breakfast Baconater and a Frosty-ccino.
The full menu consists of nine sandwiches. Three are on croissants, including two options with eggs (sausage, egg and Swiss cheese or a bacon, egg and Swiss cheese) and a maple bacon chicken croissant. Similar egg sandwiches will also be sold on biscuits and classic buns. It’s also selling new side dishes, like potato wedges and replacing its coffee blend.
Wendy’s currently offers some of its breakfast items at about 300 locations. The nationwide launch “provides incredible growth opportunities,” said Todd Penegor, the company’s president and CEO, in a previously released statement. Wendy’s has some 6,000 locations nationwide.
Breakfast is one the few expanding segments for the industry, according to food industry group NDP. Late night is, too, but not as quickly.
If all goes well, Wendy’s predicts breakfast sales will encompass 10% of its daily sales. But it doesn’t expect breakfast to be profitable until sometime next year.
There are uncertainties about this endeavor. Wendy’s previous attempt to sell breakfast flopped in 2012. And breakfast is costly. The chain expects to spend about $20 million to hire about 20,000 employees and serve breakfast in all its stores. Investors soured on the stock when Wendy’s initially announced the news in September but its shares are now up 27% year over year.
Wendy’s will have plenty of competitors in the breakfast space, including McDonald’s, Dunkin’ and Panera.
Dunkin’, which has been experimenting with healthy breakfast items, launched a breakfast sandwich last year that is made with a plant-based Beyond sausage, luring customers with a trendy new option. Panera bolstered its menu with new offerings and IHOP unveiled plans for a new store, Flip’d, that will serve freshly prepared breakfast to go.
McDonald’s, arguably the breakfast behemoth, expanded its morning fare last month with two new chicken sandwiches. The chain’s gamble in launching all-day breakfast in 2015 has proved successful.
Wendy's is giving away its new chicken sandwich as the chicken-sandwich wars heat back up
As the "chicken-sandwich wars" continue to rage, a new contender has entered the arena: Wendy's. The fast-food chain announced on Thursday it would be releasing a new chicken sandwich, and now customers can try one for free with a purchase at a participating restaurant.
The new sandwich, dubbed the "classic chicken sandwich," will replace the "homestyle chicken sandwich" on Wendy's menu. The new menu item will feature a "premium all-white meat chicken breast that is juicy and crispy," according to a Wendy's statement, as well as mayonnaise, tomato, lettuce, and pickles on a toasted bun.
Customers can get a free classic chicken sandwich through November 8 by making a purchase at a Wendy's or ordering through the chain's mobile app. Customers are allowed one free sandwich per week.
Since the launch of the Popeyes hit chicken sandwich in August 2019, a competition has been heating up in the fast-food industry. The chicken-sandwich wars have inspired Twitter feuds, sold-out sandwiches, and even a stabbing over an allegation of line jumping. In hopes of sharing in Chick-fil-A's and Popeyes' success, Kentucky Fried Chicken debuted a chicken and doughnut sandwich.
"We can't wait for our fans to get their hands on the New Classic Chicken Sandwich which has the perfect crunch from breading and pickles paired with the juiciness and flavor of the fillet," Carl Loredo, the chief marketing officer of the Wendy's Co., said.
In related chicken-sandwich news, Whataburger and Burger King also recently added chicken sandwiches to their menus, and Popeyes rode high during its parent company's earnings release on Tuesday. The company reported that year-over-year sales had declined at its Tim Hortons and Burger King restaurants, but the losses were partially offset by an increase in sales at Popeyes.
Wendy's breakfast menu launches today — here's what's on the menu
Breakfast has long been a crowded space among fast-food competitors. As restaurants continue to duke it out over morning meals, a new opponent is entering the ring today with some tantalizing offerings that may just unseat the classic McMuffin.
Last month, Wendy's confirmed it would be launching its new breakfast menu nationwide on March 2.
New menu items available Monday include the Breakfast Baconator, the Frosty-ccino (a Frosty-inspired coffee drink) and the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit.
“Our crew will be hand-cracking fresh eggs on all our breakfast sandwiches and leaning into the quality ingredients that have long set Wendy’s apart from the competition,” Wendy’s U.S. president Kurt Kane said in a statement released in February. Using freshly cracked eggs will set Wendy's apart from many other fast-food chains like Burger King and Dunkin', which use egg patties that contain various fillers. McDonald's, however, uses freshly cracked eggs in many of its morning sandwiches.
The Breakfast Baconator, a spin on Wendy's Baconator burger, is made with an egg, six strips of Applewood smoked bacon, one sausage patty (it's square, of course) and two slices of American cheese, all topped with a cheesy sauce
The chain's Frosty-ccino combines cold brew coffee with either chocolate or vanilla Frosty cream.
Wendy's Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit features a buttermilk biscuit base, topped with a fried chicken breast that's been slathered with whipped honey butter.
Other menu items will include seasoned breakfast potatoes and croissant sandwiches topped with eggs, cheese and a choice of bacon or sausage.

Wendy’s to give out free chicken nuggets at every location Friday
This Jan. 29, 2012 photo, shows a Wendy’s sign at a restaurant in Culver City, Calif., Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. Fast-food chain Wendys Co. is changing the way it treats chickens and pigs used in its food in an effort to be more humane. The companys animal welfare council said Friday, March 23, 2012, that one of its chicken suppliers, O.K. Foods Inc. of Ft. Smith, Ark., has started using a low-atmospheric pressure system that renders the chickens unconscious before the birds are handled by plant workers. The process, known as LAPS, is criticized by some animal welfare groups but replaces the industry standard practice of stunning chickens with electricity. (AP Photo/Reed Saxon)
